On behalf of Wildlife Friendly Otley I would like to thank everyone who came to our first wildlife arts festival on Saturday. It was a big success, thanks to the efforts of a great number of people.
Massive thanks are due to our talented exhibitors: six groups and a further 22 individuals, all representing the wonder of nature in a variety of media. We would also like to express our appreciation of the eleven people who delivered inspiring wildlife talks (creative and factual) upstairs in the Art Room. The excellent evening presentation by award-winning cameraman Ian McCarthy was met with much deserved applause from a packed Courtroom.
Festivals like these don't happen without financial support such as that from our festival sponsor, Sinclair's, and a grant from Otley Town Council. Sinclair's also kindly helped resource the children's art activities featured at the festival. The help of Wildlife Friendly Otley members and volunteers, and especially Courthouse staff and their volunteers was also key to the festival's success. Thanks also to Petwise and Courtyard Planters who donated wildlife related prizes for our raffle.
Finally, I would like to thank the kind people at Art Works, who donated both a "Best in Show" prize and a space in which wood sculptor Shane Green could showcase his skills.
It was a great day which engaged people with the wonderful wildlife around our town and with the wonderful work of Otley's creative community. Plans for next year's festival have already started!
