Who we are

Established in October 2018, Wildlife Friendly Otley is a community group working hard with the people, businesses and schools of Otley and other local nature and environmental groups to make Otley the first 'wildlife friendly town' in the UK.

Public interest in nature is high but British wildlife has declined by more than half in the last 40-50 years and is under continuous threat.

Otley is well situated as an excellent location for wildlife - a small town built around the river Wharfe, nestled in the shadow of the beautiful Chevin Forest Park and benefitting from two designated nature reserves.

By declaring Otley as the first wildlife friendly town, we can set an example of how towns can be rich in nature and wildlife; whilst giving nature a helping hand and making Otley an even more attractive place to live, work and visit.

Our aims:

  1. To promote Otley as the first wildlife friendly town.

  2. To celebrate and raise awareness of Otley's rich natural environment and the need to protect it.

  3. To increase participation in local wildlife organisations.

  4. To encourage individuals, families, schools and local organisations to become more wildlife friendly.
